James Seth Day 's Obituary
James Seth Day, age 80, of Alliance, passed away Monday, February 9, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born on November 4, 1934 in Alliance, Ohio to the late Harold E. and Estella (Borton) Day, he lived in Alliance for all of his life.
Jim was a graduate of Alliance High School Class of 1952 and served our country for 6 years in the U.S. Naval Reserves. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 166 for 19 years.
A lifetime member of First Christian Church, James was employed at Columbia Gas of Ohio as a Division Service Supervisor and retired in 1992 after 40 years of service.
He was a member of Alliance Lion’s Club and was the recipient of their 2009 “Lion of the Year” award. He earned his private pilot's license in 1960 and was a member of Taylorcraft Flying Club for many years. He was also a member of AARP Local Chapter 2630 as well as State & National; and the Alliance Senior Citizens.
He was a former member of the Alliance Area Community Concert Assoc., B.P.O. Elks Lodge #467 and the former Alliance Jaycee's.
Jim loved to go fishing every year with his buddies to Canada. Jim and Mary Ann traveled for many years throughout the U.S. in their motor home. They later became “Snow Birds” in Leesburg, FL at Holiday Travel Resort for over 6 years. Other hobbies include shuffleboard, miniature golf, hunting, playing euchre and attending many sporting events to watch his grandchildren who were the apple of his eye. Jim’s great smile, humor and wit will be solely missed by his loving family and many friends.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary Ann (Lee) Day; two sons, Gregory (Sue) Day of Apopka, FL, Jeffrey (Beth) Day of Alliance, OH; daughter, Brenda (Jeffrey) Lamp of Louisville, OH; two sisters, Doris (Richard) Livengood of Alliance, OH, Janet Vick of Alliance, OH; sister-in-law, Margaret Day of Stanwood, WA; four grandchildren, Michael (Lindsay) Damiani of Jacksonville, FL, Travis Day of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Seth Lamp of Louisville, OH and Quinn Li Lamp of Louisville, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Day in 2011; grandson, Matthew Day in 1979; brother-in-law, James Vick; and nephews, Mark Livengood and Michael (William) Oyster.
The family wishes to extend its thanks to Canterbury Villa and Staff for the wonderful care they provided for Jim while he was a resident there for 8 months. Also, many thanks to the ICU & PCU units at Alliance Community Hospital as well as Dr. Michael McGrady and Dr. Duane Kuentz.
The family will receive friends at First Christian Church, 1141 W. Beech St., on Friday, February 13, 2015 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am. His Funeral Service with military honors will begin at 11:00 am, with Pastor Aaron Phillips officiating. The Ladies of the church will provide a luncheon following the service.
Per Jim’s request, cremation has taken place. His urn will be entombed in the Mausoleum at Highland Memorial Park at a later date.
