Isaac R. Slingerland's Obituary
Isaac R. Slingerland, 91, of Alliance, died at his home on Friday, April 2, 2004. Born in Troy, Pa., on June 4, 1912 he has lived in Alliance since 1947. Mr. Slingerland was a 1938 graduate of Albright College in Reading, Pa., where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry. He retired after 38 years of service from Universal Co-Op in Alliance where he had been the manager of their chemical lab. He was a member of the Middle Sandy Presbyterian Church in Homeworth and was a member of the Homeworth Lions Club. Survivors include his daughter Linda J. Stout of Alliance; his son and daughter-in- law Terry R. and Carolyn Slingerland of Alliance; 3 grandchildren; 5 great- grandchildren; a sister, Florence Wallace of Linthicum Hts, MD; a brother Wilbur Slingerland of Troy, PA; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his wife, Virginia A. (Schuler) Slingerland on January 2, 1998 (they were married on May 17, 1941); his parents, Charles R. and Bessie (McBlane) Slingerland; one great-grandson, Noah Ray Slingerland; a sister, Marjorie King and a brother Robert Slingerland. The family will receive friends at the Middle Sandy Presbyterian Church in Homeworth on Thursday from 10:00 -11:00 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11 :00 a.m. with the Rev. Tom Sawyer officiating. Entombment will follow at Highland Memorial Park.
