Irene W. (Downing) Farmer's Obituary
Irene W. (Downing) Farmer, 90, of Alliance, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 1, 2003, at 4:00 p.m. at McCrea Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where she had been a resident for the past two years. Born in Pittsburgh, Pa, on August 5, 1912, she had been a resident of the Alliance area for most of her life. Mrs. Farmer was member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and had been a volunteer at Alliance Community Hospital. She enjoyed playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and greatly enjoyed traveling with her husband all over the United States, as well as their fishing trips to Canada. Survivors include her husband, Thomas D. Farmer, whom she married on May 8, 1935; a daughter Linda (Ron) Durant of Houston, Tx; three grandchildren, Thomas Durant, Katherine Nevarez and Maureen Durant, all of Houston; four great-grandchildren, Hanna and Johnny Nevarez and Ryan and Troy Durant; and one cousin, Mrs. Jeri Westlake of New Castle, Pa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Bertha (Flick) Downing. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Tuesday, August 5, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Frank Gross, Jr., officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to services from 10-11 a.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home. The family wishes to thank the staff at McCrea Manor for their thoughtful and tender care.
