Howard James Barcus' Obituary
Howard James Barcus, 82, of Canton, and former resident of Alliance, died on Sunday, October 13, 2002, at 2:15 a.m. at the Canton Christian Home. Born in Minerva, Ohio on July 19, 1920, he had lived the past 21 years in the Alliance and Canton areas. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U. S. Air Force as a B-24 Pilot. He retired as President of the former Howard Barcus Construction Company, was Past President of the Ohio Home Builders Association, and was a member of the Beechwood Christian Church where he served as a former Chairman of the Board. Mr. Barcus was also a former member of the Alliance Rotary Club, a former President of The Ohio Church Development Fund and currently held membership on the Board of Trustees of Canton Christian Home. Survivors include his wife, Wilma E. (Reis) Barcus, whom he married on June 25, 1944; a daughter, Carol Farris of Ft. Myers, FL; a son, Charles R. Barcus of Milwaukee, WI; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Beula Pohto of Chardon; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, James Howard and Florence (Roudebush) Barcus; and two brothers, Lester E. Barcus and Herman E. Barcus. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 16, 2002, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. and also on Thursday, October 17, 2002, from 1-2:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Thursday, October 17, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. John Hannum officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
