Helen E. Johns' Obituary
Helen E. Johns, 85, formerly of Mill Street, Alliance, and Copeland Oaks, Sebring, died, with her daughters by her side, at Community Care Center at 11:55 p.m. on Thursday, December 16, 2004, following a four-month illness. Born May 23, 1919, in Alliance to Clarence R. and Sarah (Baird) Smith, Helen graduated from Alliance High School. She retired from Carnation Disposal / BFI in 1993. Mrs. Johns was a 71 year member of the Union Avenue United Methodist Church. She was a former Girl Scout leader, a member of the Women s Division of the Chamber of Commerce, and was the Transportation Fund treasurer for the Alliance Shrine Club for many years. Survivors include a daughter, Kay Johns of Alliance; a daughter and her boyfriend, Linda Johns and Bob Schillig of Louisville; a sister, Anna Mae (Ann) Smith of Alliance; two nephews of Pittsburgh, PA; and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, N. Jane Miller; and a brother, Clarence R. "Bud" Smith. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Sunday from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Gordon Ruggles officiating. Interment will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
