Helen John Gainor's Obituary
A service celebrating the life of Helen John Gainor, 77, of Alliance, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Trinity Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Herbert G. Myers officiating. Entombment will follow at Highland Memorial Park. Mrs. Gainor, a 1942 graduate of Newark High School, died on Monday, May 6, 2002, at 9:08 a.m. at the Alliance Community Hospital following a brief illness. She was born on September 16, 1924, in Newark, to the late Dan and Donna (Vaia) John. She had lived in Alliance since her marriage in 1949. Mrs. Gainor was the owner and operator of Helen Gainor's Beauty Shoppe for 37 years. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and sang the mass at St. Theodore's Romanian Catholic Church. A once avid bowler and golfer, she was a member of the B.P.D. Elks Ladies Auxiliary, the Alliance Senior Center, and the Sleepy Hollow Country Club. She also enjoyed working at the polls on election days and helping with the Romanian dinners. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Gligor Gainor, whom she married on November 6, 1949; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna Ann and Alexander Peters of Tallmadge; a son and daughter-in- law, Danny John and Laura Gainor of Phoenix, Arizona; two grandchildren; Gregory Mathew Gainor and Rebekah Kathryn Peters; a brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Bonnie John of Newark; four sister-in-laws, Alverda Gainor and Hilda Gainor of Alliance, Grace Wahl of Florida, and Marilyn Gainor of California; one aunt, Pauline Vaia of Newark; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding her in death were a sister and brother-in-law, Eva and Robert McDonald of Newark; brother-in-laws, George Gainor and John Gainor of Alliance; Pete Gainor of California; and Chuck Gainor of Florida. Friends may call Friday from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home.
