Helen M. DeStephen's Obituary
Helen M. (Skivolocke) DeStephen, 104, formerly of Alliance, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at Cardinal Place in Cambridge, Ohio.
Born on March 16, 1921 in Homeworth, Ohio to Louis T. and Mary (Valentine) Skivolocke, Helen was a 1939 graduate of Alliance High School. She lived in Alliance for most of her life, having recently moved to Cambridge, Ohio. Helen was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alliance and also attended Christ Our Light Parish in Cambridge for many years.
She married the love of her life, Albert DeStephen, on September 19, 1943 in Sarasota, Florida and had the privilege of sharing their life together for 74 wonderful years.
Helen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who supported her family in all ways. She enjoyed music, dancing, singing and following her granddaughter and great-granddaughter in golf tournaments, dance competitions and pageants. She especially enjoyed recently being a beautiful flower girl at the age of 102 in her great- granddaughter's wedding.
She is survived by her daughter, Norma (DeStephen) Longinie of New Concord, OH; granddaughter Lori (Richard) Bubenchik of Norwich, OH; great-granddaughter Lexi (Blake) Hartford of Zanesville, OH; a sister-in-law, JoAnne DeStephen of Canton, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death was her husband Albert M. DeStephen who died on December 24, 2017; her parents Louis T. and Mary Skivolocke; a son-in-law, John Longinie; two sisters, Doletta L. (Forrest) Gallina and Doris (Bob) Runion; and two brothers, Frank Skivolocke and Louis E. Skivolocke.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 22, 2025 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home and also on Monday June 23, 2025 from 9:00 am - 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alliance. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 23,2025 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alliance. Burial will immediately follow at 1:00 pm at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cambridge, Ohio.
