Helen Lena (Favazzo) Barnes' Obituary
Helen Lena (Favazzo) Barnes, 82, of Alliance, died on Sunday, June 29, 2003, at 1:10 a.m. at Altercare of Alliance, following a long courageous battle with cancer. Born in Alliance on November 29, 1921 to Vincent and Angelina (Ferrarini) Favazzo, she had been a lifelong resident of Alliance. Her parents were from the province of Messina in Sicily. Lena was a homemaker and was devoted to her family. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends and welcomed everyone to share a meal at her table. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends and most of all her grandchildren. He greatest passions were her faith, family, friends, food and fun. She loved life and enjoyed every moment. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Lena is survived by a daughter, Patricia (Garry) Roman of Alliance; two sons, Robert (Sara) Baumgartner of Alliance and Less (Joanne) Barnes of Homeworth; two sisters, Marcella Dixson and Mary (Paul) Osco, both of Alliance. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Robert T. Baumgartner of Alliance, Brian S. Baumgartner of Minerva, Pamela (Brad) Heestand of Canton, Mich. and Stephanie Steele of Beloit; three great- grandchildren, Alishia Steel and twins, Carissa & Kyle Heestand; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Merle Barnes, who died June 29, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter and two sisters, Rose Hughes and Eva Barnes and eight brothers, Carmen, Anthony, Charles, Joseph, James, Ben, Victor and Angelo. The family will receive friends at the Sharer- Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 2, 2003, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 3, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Donald L. Feicht officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park.
