Hazel B. di Donato's Obituary
Our mother and grandmother, Hazel B. di Donato, age 95, went to her heavenly home from her current residence at Altercare of Alliance on May 4, 2005. She was born in New Hampton, Iowa on April 18, 1910 to Anna Belle and William Greenwald and moved to the Alliance area with her family at the age of 8. She was a devoted wife to the late Victor di Donato who died in 1964 and a devoted mother and grandmother to her family. Two brothers, Earl Greenwald and Grant Greenwald, preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Louis William (Joanne) di Donato of Alliance; Dennis (Cathy) di Donato of North Carolina; Vickie (Kenneth) Cardinal of Sebring; Jay (Doreen) Unkefer of Florida; Glen (Jane) Unkefer of Columbiana along with 15 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Hazel s family was her uppermost love and in earlier years she loved to bowl, golf, cook and play cards. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed them all. She loved people and will be missed deeply by her family and the friends she shared many years with. She and her husband, Victor, were the owners of the original Castle Night Club Restaurant in Alliance that they opened in 1945 where Hazel shared prized recipes with customers and attended to managing the business. She was a member of St. Joseph s Catholic Church, the Alliance Country Club, Alliance Women s Club, American Legion Auxiliary, many bowling and golf teams and the Ohio Restaurant Association. Retirement allowed her to move to Mill Circle giving her more time to share with her family, friends and new neighbors. Her concern was always about others instead of herself so she ll be greatly missed by all who have cherished memories of time spent with her. Her family is especially thankful for all the years they had her and expresses a special thank-you to Mary Ann Homing, her long time caregiver. Friends will be received by the family on Monday, from 10:00 to 11:00 at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home followed immediately with a funeral service officiated by the Rev. Fr. Donald L. Feicht. The family will welcome everyone at the Swartz Center behind the church following interment at St. Joseph Cemetery in Alliance.
