Gregory P. Giacometti's Obituary
Gregory P. Giacometti, 60, of Alliance, died on Sunday, July 25, 2010, at 9:20 a.m. at his home. He was born on January 17, 1950 in Alliance and lived in Alliance all of his life. A 1968 graduate of Alliance High School, Greg served our country in the U. S. Air Force from 1968 - 1972 in Avaino, Italy. Greg was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and he received a Juvenile Corrections Degree from Kent State University. A Licensed Social Worker, he retired on January 17, 1996 from the Crisis Intervention Center of Stark County, where he had been the Consultation and Education Director for 15 years. Greg was an avid Steelers fan and enjoyed golfing, basketball and model trains. Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Betty J. (Swisher) Giacometti, whom he married on December 3, 1982; a sister, Christine (Daniel) Faulkner of Alliance; three sisters-in-law, JoAnn Cornell of Massillon, Patricia J. Swisher of Massillon and Sue Taylor of Canton; nephews, Shawn M. (Kristie) Swisher of Canton, Roger L. (Amanda) Cornell of North Vernon, IN and Christopher Brown of Massillon; and nieces, Jeanette Swisher of Massillon, Krysten Swisher, of Kentucky, Tara Faulkner of Alliance and DeVane (Faulkner) Thompson of Alliance. Preceding him in death were his parents, Robert A. & Genevieve (Sullivan) Giacometti; and grandparents, Mario & Livia Giacometti and George & Emma Sullivan. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Thursday, July 29, 2010, from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Donald L. Feicht, as celebrant. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
