George W. Kennedy 's Obituary
George W. Kennedy, 85, of Alliance, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 22, 2017 at 1:30 pm at Community Care Center in Alliance, Ohio.
Born on April 22, 1932 in Alliance, Ohio to William Charles and Bertha Marie (Thomas) Kennedy, he lived in Alliance for all of his life.
George was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and was a graduate of Alliance High School, Class of 1950.
A veteran of Korean War, he served our country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army as a Medic. He received Korean Service Medal with two campaign stars and a Combat Medical Badge.
George was in food retail for most of his life. He was a meat cutter for Jays, worked produce at Kroger’s and Giant Eagle, retiring in 1993. He was also the owner of Kennedy Lettering in Alliance over 15 years.
He was a member of V.F.W. Post 1036 Alliance, DAV (Disabled American Veterans) Chapter 50 Alliance, and U.C.T. (United Commercial Travelers), and Food Service Local 880.
George was a sports enthusiast who especially loved supporting his kids and grandkids in all their activities. He was a very talented artist, who enjoyed drawing and painting for his family and friends, including designing his annual Christmas Cards.
Survivors include his wife, Theresa Ann (Bennett) Kennedy, whom he married on September 2, 1955; five daughters, Kathleen (David) Boettcher of Lincoln, NE, Colleen (Larry) Close of Beloit, OH, Mary (John) Falcone of Alliance, OH, Karen (Jeff) Burchett of Alliance, OH, Terese (Richard) Joliet of Alliance, OH; two sons, Kevin (Donna) Kennedy of Springfield, MO, George Kennedy, Jr. of Saint Louis, MO; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, William Charles and Bertha Marie Kennedy; 2 grandchildren Alexander Peter Kennedy and Daniel Wayne Close; and an infant sister, Elizabeth.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 25, 2017 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 26, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Rev. Matthew J. Mankowski, of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, as celebrant. Burial, with military honors, will immediately follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
