George Alvin Greenwald's Obituary
George Alvin Greenwald, 85, of Alliance, died on Sunday, May 29, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center. Born in Akron on August 11, 1919, the son of Russell and Myrtle (Smith) Greenwald, he lived most of his life in Alliance. A US Navy veteran of World War II, George worked at the B & W and Akron Paint and Varnish plant. He retired from Stewart Brothers Paint Company of Alliance after 16 years of service. Mr. Greenwald was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church and was a Church Elder. He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy (Helmstedter) Greenwald; two sons, Garry (Beth Reed) Greenwald of Atwater and Richard (Kate Patterson) Greenwald of Cincinnati; five grandchildren, Greg and Valerie Greenwald and their children, Casey and Andrew, all of Stow, Stacey Greenwald of Akron, Melissa and Jeff Erskine and their children, Sydney and Caitlin, all of Columbus, Amy and Nathan Mesmer and their children, Ryan and Megan, all of Cincinnati and Mark and Dawn Greenwald of Cincinnati, who are expecting the 7th great-grandchild in October. Also surviving is a half-sister, Janet Greenwald of Albuquerque, New Mexico. with the Rev. Dr. William Sadler officiating. Interment for family will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery in Akron. Arrangements are being handled by the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home.
