George Donald Edwards' Obituary
George Donald Edwards, 86, of Alliance, passed away on Friday, June 29, 2012 at 6:20 a.m. at Sterling House of Alliance. Born on April 7, 1926 in Limaville, he lived in Alliance area all of his life and was a graduate of Alliance High School. A veteran of World War II, he served our country in the U. S. Army Air Corps. He was a life member and Past Commander of the American Legion Post #166, a member of the VFW Post #1036 and Forty & Eight Voiture 925. George was a member of First United Presbyterian Church, and retired from B & W Research, where he was employed as a storekeeper. In his past-time, he enjoyed gardening, playing cards and traveling. Survivors include his daughter, Deborah (James) Harris Murrells Inlet, SC; his son, Scott (Linda) Edwards of Alliance; four grandchildren, Tanya Glemba, Rachel Harris-Beck, Jason Hustus and Allison Harris-Brehm; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Zella Worley of Guilford Lake; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his wife, Shirley (Nieswonger) Edwards on December 18, 1999, whom he married on October 5, 1947; his parents, Wesley and Anna (English) Edwards; two sisters; and two brothers. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Monday, July 2, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. His funeral service will be held at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
