Franklin L. "Butch" Muniz's Obituary
Franklin L. "Butch" Muniz, 71, of Alliance, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 3, 2013. Born on June 23, 1941 in Alliance, he lived here all of his life.He was a member of Regina Coeli Catholic Church. Butch received his education at North Lincoln Elementary School, Stanton Jr. High and was a 1960 graduate of Alliance High School. Immediately following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, and had served our country from 1960-1964. Upon returning home to Alliance, he was employed at B&W Tube and through the years, he had achieved the position of Foreman of the Welding Department. He retired in 1999 from Alliance Tubular Products as Safety Superintendent. Butch was a member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge 457 and was also a member of the Sleepy Hollow Country Club. He was an avid golfer and had hit a "hole-in-one" at Tannenhauf Golf Course. A Baseball Coach for the Alliance Hot Stove League for many years, he had once been a State Tournament Director. Butch was a man who throughout his life would help anyone, most of the time without them knowing who it was that stepped forward. He had been a "Secret Santa" to many people. He was a wonderful craftsman, especially in woodworking and loved helping his kids with projects around their homes. A great husband and father, he simply loved his family. He cherished his time with his grandchildren and participating with them in various events. But most importantly, he took care of his mother, especially in recent years. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife and childhood sweetheart, Joyce L. (Zaina) Muniz, whom he married on July 6, 1963; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael & Joy Muniz of Alliance; his daughter and son-in-law, Michelle & Daren Balderson of Alliance; four grandchildren, Brock & Bailey Balderson and Kyleigh & Taylor Muniz; his mother, Evelyn M. (Fox) Muniz of Alliance; two aunts, Dorothy (Richard) Clark and Aileen New, both of Alliance; sister-in-law and niece, Patty Saliola and Danielle Kreuzer of Canton; nephew, Louis Zaina of Albuqerque NM; and his brothers-in-law, Jim (Dottie) Brush and Bill (Nan) Brush, both of Alliance; and many, many nieces, nephews and great nieces & nephews; and a host of friends. Preceding him in death was his father, Angelo "Kello" Muniz in 1974; his father-in-law, Louis "Gee Gee" Zaina and mother-in-law, Edith Zaina; and two brothers-in-law, Bert Zaina and Jerry Brush. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Sunday, January 6, 2013 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Regina Coeli Catholic Church on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Michael Seifert as celebrant. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park. Arrangements are by the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home, 1000 S. Union Avenue, Alliance, Ohio 44601.
