Frank C. Common's Obituary
Frank C. Common, 76, of Alliance, died on Monday, September 19, 2005, at his home. He was born in Alliance on September 15, 1929, and had lived here all of his life. He was a 1948 Alliance High School graduate and attended Mount Union College. A veteran of the U.S Army, Frank was a corporal in the Korean War and was a member of the VFW Post 1036. Mr. Common retired as leader lineman with the Ohio Edison after 42 years of service. Frank was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he was an adult server. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 558, and enjoyed bowling with the K of C league. He also bowled with the mixed senior league at the College Plaza. Frank was inducted into the Alliance High School Athlete Hall of Fame for basketball. He devoted over 30 years of coaching Hot Stove League baseball and youth basketball. He was also a former member of the Homeworth Lions Club. Frank is survived by his wife, Netta (Gatta) Common (they were married on July 12, 1952); a daughter, Karen (Rick) Harris of Alliance; three sons, Jim Common of Homeworth, John (Susan) Common of Minerva, and Dan (Jenny) Common of Minerva; 12 grandchildren, Erik, Annette, Emilee, Adam, Stephanie, Brook, Brandon, Trista, Jianna, Danny, Jimmy, and Frankie; 4 great-grandchildren, Brendan, Cory, Cameron, and Colin; a brother, Mark (Marcella) Common of Louisville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Elizabeth (Ierovante) Common; and two brothers, Michael and Richard and his nephew, James, all who died last week. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 21, 2005, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. A Knights of Columbus service will follow at 9:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Thursday, September 22, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Donald L. Feicht as celebrant. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
