Eugene "Cliff" BonDurant's Obituary
Eugene "Cliff" BonDurant, 86, of Alliance, died on Saturday, November 21, 2009, at 2:15 a.m. at Roselawn Terrace, with his loving family at his side. He was born on February 21, 1923 in Wichita, KS, and lived in Alliance for most of his life. After high school, he served our country with the U. S. Navy during World War II. He was stationed on the USS Saratoga and was deployed to Pearl Harbor following the bombing. He was formerly employed at Heastand Auto Parts and had retired from TRW. Mr. BonDurant was a member of the American Legion, Post 166, the VFW Post 1036, the BPO Elks # 467, and Dr. Roach s Outdoor League. In his past-time, he enjoyed boating, camping, traveling, making stained glass art and spending time at his winter home in Lakeland, Florida. He especially loved his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by a daughter, Janeen Elise (Gary) Mason of Alliance; a son, Curtis (Cindy) Cliffton BonDurant of Lynchburg, VA; five grandchildren, Chad Mason, Denise (Tom) Wood, Rachel (Mike) Cantwell, Stephanie (Adam) Grandy, and Matthew BonDurant; six great-grandchildren, Victoria Ream, Drew Wood, Noah Myers, Mac Cantwell, Chole Cantwell, and Jack Grandy; a sister, Leora Shanks of Wichita, KS; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his wife, Kathleen (Heastand) BonDurant on August 13, 2004, whom he married on May 7, 1946; his parents, Harvey and Alice (Mooney) BonDurant; and two sisters, Louise Toomey and Josephine Cosby. The family will receive guests for a celebration of life service at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. with Minister Brad Risley of Alliance Church of Christ officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036. Friends are invited to join the family for a celebratory reception following the service at the Alliance Elks. Interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park.
