Ernest G. Murphy's Obituary
Ernest G. "Slim" Murphy, 88, of Alliance, passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at 1:45 pm at Alliance Community Hospital. He was born on September 3, 1926 in Damascus, Ohio to John E. and Isabelle (Dorsey) Murphy and lived in Alliance for all of his life. Ernest retired as an Assistant Street Commissioner from City of Alliance after 30 years of service. Following his retirement, he was an Assistant Supervisor of Maintenance at Copeland Oaks for 13 years. A veteran of World War II, he served our country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of American Legion, Post 166 in Alliance and the B.P.O. Elks, Lodge #467 in Alliance. He loved to work on his house and kept it spic & span along with maintaining a perfect lawn and flower beds. He loved going to area restaurants, especially Frank s Restaurant. His orneriness will be greatly missed. Ernest is survived by his two sons, Ernest G. (Beth) Murphy Jr. of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, and Mark A. (Barb) Murphy of Minerva, OH; six grandchildren, Josh (Katee) Murphy, Tristan (Krysti) Murphy, Seth Murphy, Megan (Garrett) Thompson, Amanda Murphy, & Adam Murphy; 1 great-grandchild, Violet Murphy; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude J. (Miskelly) Murphy, whom he married on October 7, 1947 and died on June 17, 2004; two brothers, William Murphy and John E. Murphy; father, John E. Murphy; mother, Isabelle Murphy-Marietta. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Friday, December 19, 2014 from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm. A Memorial Service will be held at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Friday, December 19, 2014 at 7:00 pm. Interment, with military honors will take place at Moultrie Chapel Cemetery.
