Emil A. Linsmaier's Obituary
Emil A. Linsmaier, 91, of Alliance, died on Monday, February 22, 2010, at 9:40 a.m. at McCrea Manor. He was born on November 22, 1918 in Alliance, and lived in Alliance all of his life. Emil was a student at the former St. Joseph Catholic School for eight years and a graduate of Alliance High School. He then went on to earn his degree at Kent State University. Mr. Linsmaier served in the U. S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He served with the 5th Army in North Africa and Italy. A member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, he was an altar server during the Latin Mass era, and also served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister at Mass. He was a charter member of the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery Board of Directors where he served for many years until 1996. Mr. Linsmaier retired from the Louisville School District, where he taught Jr. High School. Emil had also worked at Armour s Abrasives Company. He was an honorary life member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council #558. Emil was also a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Bowling League. He also served in the Knights of Columbus Squires, a part of the organization dedicated to working with youth. His accomplishments were recognized with the honor of Knight of the Year in 2005. In addition to his work with his church, he also served as City Chairman for the Annual Heart Fund Campaign. Emil led a simple life. He was an avid sports fan of both local and professional games. In his past-time he enjoyed the challenges of golf and bowling with friends. Survivors include a brother, Ernest (Dorothy) Linsmaier of Alliance; several nieces and nephews; and several cousins. Preceding him in death were his parents, Frank and Mary (Gyorfi) Linsmaier; a sister, Margaret Linsmaier; and a brother, Carl Linsmaier. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Saturday, February 27, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. the Rev. Fr. Donald Feicht, as celebrant. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, at a later time.
