Eleanor E. "Effie" Davies' Obituary
Eleanor "Effie" Davies, 79, formerly of Alliance, died on Tuesday, at her home in Indianapolis, Ind. Born in Alliance on November 8, 1922, she had been a resident of Alliance for most of her life, moving in 1994 to New Castle, PA and then in 1998 to Indianapolis. She was a former member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Alliance and of the First United Methodist Church in New Castle. While in Alliance, she was a pre-school teacher at the Union Avenue United Methodist Church and a Pink Lady Volunteer at Alliance Community Hospital. Mrs. Davies was a graduate of Alliance High School and attended Canton Business College. She was a member of the Alliance Women s Club and of the Greenwood Senior Center of Indianapolis. She was an avid fan of the Aviator Basketball team and of the Indianapolis Pacer s Basketball team. She enjoyed playing cards and was an active bridge player. Survivors include her two daughters, Karen (Paul) Fites of Indianapolis and Nancy (Greg) Mohr of New Castle, Pa; son, William (Christina) Davies of East Rochester; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband, Clair M. Davies on December 18, 1992 (whom she married on November 14, 1943); one granddaughter; her parents, William and Gertrude (Kimes) Fox; and a brother, William Fox. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Saturday, November 2, 2002, from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor J. Langley of the First United Methodist Church of New Castle, PA., officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Union Cemetery.
