Edward C. "Pop" Koch, Sr.'s Obituary
Edward C. "Pop" Koch, Sr., 88, of Alliance, died on Sunday, December 31, 2006, at 10:09 a.m., at Community Care Center in Alliance. Born on May 14, 1918 in Alliance, he had lived in here all of his life. Mr. Koch had served in the U. S. Navy and was a member of the V.F.W. Post 1036. He was also a member of the National Champion Rifle Drill Team of 1955-56, and was one of three survivors. Mr. Koch retired from the Ford Motor Company in Canton and was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Alliance. He enjoyed coaching slow pitch softball on the Jim & Dale s and Traps teams, and also loved traveling to their various games around the country. He is survived one daughter, Karen (Dale) Abney of Alliance; one son, Edward C. (Nancy) Koch, Jr. of Alliance; two grandsons, Rick Haidet and Chris Haidet; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his wife, Helen E. (Keszeg) Koch on May 20, 1999, whom he married on Sept. 28, 1940; his parents, Harold and Ethel (Early) Koch; a sister, Dorothy Meek; two brothers, Robert Koch and Eugene Koch; and one nephew. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 3, 2007 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. and also on Thursday, January 4, 2007 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will be held at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Thursday, January 4, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park.
