Earl P. Leiter's Obituary
Earl Purdy Leiter, 80, of Alliance, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 26, 2012 at 11:07 p.m. at Aultman Hospital. Born on July 19, 1931 in Columbus, OH, he had lived in Louisville for most of his life. A graduate of Timken High School in Canton, he received an Associate Degree in Engineering from Stark Technical College. He was a veteran of Korean Conflict, serving our country in the U. S. Marine Corps. A very active member of First Baptist Church of Alliance, He retired from Republic Storage Systems, where he was employed as a Design Engineer. In his past-time, he enjoyed genealogical research, design drafting, golfing and especially volunteering at Alliance Community Hospital & Hospice. Survivors include a daughter, Charlotte A. (Dan) Loar of Alliance; a son, Philip C. (Rebecca) Leiter of Hudson; four grandchildren; Christy (Jason) Definbaugh of Alliance, Nick (Amanda) Loar of Alliance, Roxanne Leiter of Hudson; and Airman Zoran Kyle Benson, stationed at Eglin AFB, FL, and his fiancee, Shannon O Boyle of Hudson, OH; Sarah (Matt) Stika of Avon, OH; great-grandsons, Jacob and Zachary Definbaugh of Alliance, and Ben Stika of Avon, OH; great-granddaughters, Morgan Loar of Alliance. Audrey & Olivia Stika of Avon, OH; a sister-in-law, Beverly (George) Rodak of Louisville; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his wife, Evelyn M. (Apperson) Leiter on October 10, 2005, whom he married on December 30, 1950; his parents, Earl R. and Reliance S. (Purdy) Leiter; and two sisters, Lois May Leiter and Olive Mae Vogt. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Friday, March 2, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and also at First Baptist Church on Saturday, March 3, 2012 from 10 - 11 a.m. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church, 1659 West State Street, Alliance, on Saturday, March 3, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Steve Rhodes officiating. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at Sunset Hills Burial Park in Canton. Arrangements are by the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home, 1000 S. Union Avenue, Alliance, Ohio 44601.
