Dr. Lawrence T. Oney, Sr.'s Obituary
Dr. Lawrence T. Oney, Sr., 78, of Alliance, former Pastor of the Alliance Baptist Temple, died on Sunday, May 5, 2002, in Nashville, Georgia. Born in Guernsey County, Ohio, on May 30, 1923, he was a graduate of the Akron Baptist Temple Bible College. Reverend Oney moved to Alliance from Canton in 1953 and founded the Alliance Baptist Temple, where he was Pastor for 42 years. He also broadcasted a radio program on Sunday Mornings throughout Ohio. He was very active with the Baptist Bible Fellowship in Springfield, Missouri and was the editor of the Voice of Evangelism. Rev. Oney had initiated and assisted in the translated version of the King James Bible into German and distributed many copies allover Germany. He received an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Divinity from the Midwestern Baptist College of Pontiac Michigan. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Miller) Oney, whom he married on September 8, 1942; his daughter and son-in law, Linda and Rev. Gary Keffer of Nashville, Ga.; his son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence and Patti Oney Jr. of Alliance; and four grandchildren, Amy Keffer of Nashville, GA. Paul and his wife Jessica Keffer of Nashville, GA., Rebecca Oney of Alliance, OH. and Derek Oney of Alliance, OH. and one great-granddaughter Emily Grace Keffer of Nashville, GA. Preceding him in death were his parents, John William and Sarah (Walk) Oney; an infant sister, Sylvia Oney; and two infant brothers Harlan and Oscar Oney, and three brothers, Frank Oney, Ellis Oney, and John Oney. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Thursday, May 9, 2002, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Alliance Baptist Temple on Friday, May 10, 2002, at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Gary Keffer and Rev. Ronald Aebersold officiating. Burial will follow at Alliance City Cemetery.
