Dorothy E. Donohue Jeffries Syme's Obituary
Dorothy E. Donohue Jeffries Syme, age 91, of Alliance, died on Thursday, March 17, 2005, at 6:15 p.m. at the Alliance Community Hospital. Born in Natural Bridge, VA on August 19, 1913, Mrs. Syme lived in the Alliance most of her life. Mrs. Syme was the founder of the Valley Road Nursing Home in Damascus which she operated for 28 years. She is a member of the Alliance Baptist Temple where she was an active member of the Jolly Sixtys group for many years. She enjoyed writing, reading and singing. She is survived by daughter Gail Donohue, of Alliance; daughter and son-in-law Marty and Tom Egan, of Alliance, with whom she resided; son and daughter-in-law Milt and Janie Donohue of Kensington; grand children Dustin Donohue, Crystal Dennison, Danita Soules, Trina Arnold, Isiah Donohue, Michelle Kelleher, Dave Furcolow, Joe Miller, Chuck Morgan, Steve Morgan, and Bill McCrea; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; sister Louise Long of Minerva, and sister and brother-in-law Virginia and Ray Davis of Nitro, WV. Preceding her in death were her husband, Garland L. Syme who died August 9, 1995 (they were married on December of 1984); her parents Edward V. and Lottie (Smith) Hendel; one sister and four brothers. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Sunday, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Randy Payne officiating. Internment will follow at Highland Memorial Park.
