Dorothy P. Brunie's Obituary
Dorothy Pauline Albrich Brunie, 103, life-long resident of Alliance, Ohio, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2023. She was born February 7, 1920, the youngest of five children, to Transylvanian Saxon immigrants Martin Sr. and Regina Gottchling Albrich. Dorothy celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends in 2020 at Alliance Country Club. She will be remembered for her caring heart, generosity, independence and “can do” attitude.
In 1939, Dorothy graduated from Alliance High School and began working at Alliance Manufacturing. She married Robert W. Brunie June 27, 1942. Together they built their house, created a loving home where hard work and education were emphasized, and enjoyed gardening, boating and antiquing. They were married almost 43 years when he passed away on May 8, 1985. Also preceding her in death were her parents; sister Jean Albrich Werner Wengel; brothers Albert, Henry, and Marty (Martin Jr.) Albrich; and stepmother Sara Markel Albrich.
She loved taking care of her family and home, enjoyed traveling, was an avid fan of Alliance High School soccer and liked watching professional basketball. Dorothy became an inspector at Alliance Manufacturing and retired in 1981 after 42 years. She helped plan her Alliance High School class reunions and was a member of Alliance Transylvanian Saxon Lodge #8 and Alliance Manufacturing Genie Retirees.
Those left to cherish Dorothy’s memory are daughter, Barbara (David) Alban of Plano, TX; son, Dr. James (Vera Davis Bullis) Brunie of Westerville, OH; granddaughters Kelly Brunie (Mike) Evans of St. Louis, MO and Brendin Alban (Tim) Wood of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; grandsons Dustin (Courtney Wade) Alban of McKinney, TX and Jason (Leah Hardman) Brunie of Lebanon, OH; great-grandchildren Hannah, Lauren and Grant Alban, Vincent and A.J. Brunie, and Finley Wood.
Dorothy will be remembered by nieces Sandy Albrich (Clark) Archer of Rock Hill, SC, Sondra Abbuhl Esporite of North Canton, OH, Nancy Abbuhl (Armand) Lenarz of Minerva, OH, Susan Abbuhl (George) Hays of Sebring, OH, and Joanne Smith Wright of Alliance, OH; many great and great-great nieces and nephews; step-grandsons Jeremy Bullis of Hudson, NY and Jared Bullis of San Diego, CA; step-granddaughter Jennifer Bullis (Tyler) Steele of Worthington, OH; great step-grandchildren Paisley, Finley and River Steele; and friends and neighbors Carol and Rick Bourne of Alliance, OH.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, April 29, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home at 1000 S. Union Ave., Alliance, OH. A service Celebrating the Life of Dorothy will begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by interment at Alliance City Cemetery.
