Donald L. Sams 's Obituary
Donald L. Sams, 95, of Alliance, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at his home.
Born on January 15, 1922 in Alliance, Ohio to Harry L. and Emelene F. (Richardson) Sams, he lived in Alliance for all of his life.
A veteran of WWII, he served our country in the U.S. Navy, serving two tours in the China Sea. He was a member of former V.F.W. Post 6730 in Sebring, and the American Legion, Post 166 in Alliance.
Donald was employed at Morgan Engineering Co. as a Machinist and retired in 1984 after 42 years of service.
Survivors include six daughters, Diana (Larry) Hagedorn of Alliance, OH, Jacquline (Owen) Stevens of Alliance, OH, Treva (David) Tuel of Alliance, OH, Nora (James) Haymaker of Minerva, OH, Arlene (Michael) Umberger of Marlboro, OH, Penny (Aaron) Hershberger of Massillon, OH; two sons, Robert (Patricia) Sams of Alliance, OH, David Sams of Alliance, OH; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marilyn J. Grimes of CA; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Mary Eileen (Allcorn) Sams, whom he married on March 11, 1946 and died on January 21, 2006; son, Kenneth N. Sams; daughter, Marlene K. Sams; his parents; two sisters, Doris Loomis, Beatrice Weigand; five brothers, Robert E. Sams, Harry R. Sams, William W. Sams, Charles R. Sams, George O. Sams.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home.
His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 11:00 am at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home, with Rev. Scott Williams officiating. Burial, with military honors, will immediately follow at Beechwood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Alliance Hospice 2461 W. State St., Suite E Alliance, OH 44601; or to the Washington Twp. Volunteer Fire Dept.
