Donald P. Govern 's Obituary
Donald P. Govern, 80, of Alliance, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2015 at 4:57 pm at Aultman Hospital in Canton, Ohio.
Born on July 30, 1934 in Alliance, Ohio to Joseph F. and Stella Ann (Waskovich) Govern, he lived in Alliance for all of his life.
A graduate of Alliance High School, he was member of Regina Coeli Catholic Church.
A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Air Force. Donald received the Korean Defense Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, Crew Members Badge and the Good Conduct Medal. He also completed Helicopter & Pilot training and holds a Personal Pilot License. He was a member of American Legion, Post 166, DAV (Disabled American Veterans) Chapter 50, V.F.W. Post 1036, and the Veterans of Sampson Air Force Base.
Donald was employed at Daimler-Chrysler Corporation as a Robotic Programmer and was a member of the B.P.O. Elks, Lodge #467.
Survivors include his fiancé, Joyce Marazza of Alliance, OH; Joyce’s children who were like his own, Joseph (Maureen) Marazza of Stow, OH, John Marazza of Miami Beach, FL, Shari (Jim) McCready of Alliance, Chris (Danielle) Marazza of Alliance, OH; his grandchildren, Nicholas (Laura) Marazza of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Anthony (Kaitlin) McCready of Rocky River, OH, Dominique McCready of Alliance, and Michael, Joseph & Dominic Marazza of Alliance; a special cousin, Gary Govern of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his father, Joseph F. Govern, Sr.; mother, Stella Ann Govern; sister, Rosemary Govern; two brothers, John Govern, Joseph Govern, Jr.; and a grandson, Jonathan Marazza.
The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 from 9:30 am – 10:30 am.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Regina Coeli Catholic Church on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at 11:00 am, with Rev. Joseph Ruggieri as celebrant. Interment, with military honors, will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Regina Coeli / St. Joseph Catholic School.
