I can't begin to say how much Derek was loved by me and my kids. My youngest Olivia, around 4 years old, would go and ask Uncle Derek for money for ice cream. His response was, " you need to come back on Friday, that's payday." And to his surprise there she was waiting near his parking spot for him to come home from work on Friday. " He gave her some money and said, " You're just like a wife, waiting for Friday so you can spend my paycheck. " She took what he said literally, and from then on, Uncle Derek was her husband. She would take her treasured, very loved and worn, stuffed cat " Cali " ( their kid ) to visit him. When marriage came up as a topic between Derek and my sister Autumn, Olivia would say, " you can't marry him, he's my husband. " This is the fondest memory I have of him. Love you Derek ❤️
