Daniel Joseph Vizzuso's Obituary
Daniel Joseph Vizzuso, 81, of Alliance, passed away at his home on Saturday afternoon, April 3, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Wellsville, OH, on August 11, 1922, he had lived in Alliance most of his life. Dan proudly served in the U.S. Navy, World War II, 7th Fleet Amphibious Force, earning the Victory Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with one Bronze Star and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Star. He worked on the Pennsylvania Railroad for 14 years, was manager of the BPO Elks of Alliance for 13 years, and retired from Robertson Supply Company as an inside salesman. Mr. Vizzuso was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and was a member of the Christopher Columbus Society, the Roma Society, and the Dante Alighieri Society. He was a lifetime member of B.P .0. Elks #467. Dan loved spending his retirement days with his long time friends during his daily visits to Franko's Barber Shop. He was a wonderful and fun loving husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by his family and friends but especially by his grandchildren whom he adored and were the loves of his life. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Ersilia (Masciarelli) Vizzuso; two daughters, Lynn (Joseph) Reese and Danielle (Jamie) Burmeister, both of Alliance; three grandchildren, Stacy Reese of Taylors, SC, Joseph Daniel (Jenny) Reese of Alliance, and Erica Lyn Burmeister of Alliance; and two sisters, Maryann Koleman of Alliance and Thelma (Joseph) Vadini of Parma; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his parents, Nicholas and Domenica (Danzo) Vizzuso; and six brothers, infant David, Tony, Benjamin, Rocco, Paul, and Patsy Vizzuso. Friends may call at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Tuesday from 11:00 - 1:00 p.m. An Elks Service will be held at the funeral on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Fr. Donald L. Feicht as celebrant. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
