Dan Hartenstein 's Obituary
Sidney Dan Hartenstein, 89, of Alliance, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, July 3, 2017 at 12:46 pm at Alliance Community Hospital in Alliance, Ohio.
Born on December 24, 1927 in Alliance, Ohio to Sidney C. and Erma E. (Burden) Hartenstein, he lived in Alliance for all of his life.
Dan was a 1946 graduate of Alliance High School and a member of Union Avenue United Methodist Church.
A veteran of Korean War, he served our country in the U.S. Army.
Dan retired from JC Penney Co. in Alliance as a Department Manager after 44 years of service.
He was a member of U.C.T. (United Commercial Travelers), and was formerly active with the Alliance Kiwanis Club and the Carnation City Players.
In his past time, Dan enjoyed gardening, reading, going to musicals, spending time with family members and his cat Zoey.
Survivors include a brother, Norman Hartenstein of Alliance, OH; nieces, Judy Sinkovich, Michele (Mark) Bara, Beth (Dale) Miller, Neila Hunn and Debbie (John) Folk; nephews, William (Diane) Jackson, William (Michele) Hartenstein, Dan (Susan) Jackson; many great nieces and nephews; and his caregiver, Mary Ann Horning.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Sally (Mangus) Hartenstein, whom he married on October 20, 1968 and died on October 24, 2012; his parents, Sidney C. and Erma E. Hartenstein; two sisters, Mabel Jackson and Ruth Schell; and two brothers, Donald Hartenstein and William Hartenstein.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home, where his funeral service will begin at 11:00 am, with Rev. Coralee Cox of Union Avenue United Methodist Church officiating. Burial, with military honors, will immediately follow at Salem Greenlawn Cemetery.
