Curtis H. Bluhm's Obituary
Curtis H. Bluhm, age 72, of North Benton, died suddenly on December 27, 2023.
He was born in Cleveland on July 28, 1951 to the late Norman and Thelma Nadine (Harris) Bluhm. He grew up in Hinckley and Alliance and graduated from Marlington High School.
As a boy growing up in Hinckley, Curt loved being outdoors swimming, riding bikes, playing baseball and fishing. He and his brother, Noel, loved camping and kayaking along the Rocky River. His love of the outdoors and the bond with his brother Noel lasted throughout his lifetime. Curt and Noel worked together rebuilding boats, cars, trucks and a plane. Curt, along with help from his friends and family, built a hunting cabin in the wilderness of southern Ohio. The brothers enjoyed trips to Maine to snowmobile with their oldest brother, Neal. Curt’s mother, Nadine, provided instruction for him and his brothers to earn their pilot’s licenses in the early 70’s at Barber Airport. Curt’s love of flying inspired him to partner in the Tri-City Airport in Beloit.
Curt worked in the die repair department at the General Motors factory in Lordstown. He retired from Lordstown but he continued to lend a hand to his son in his wood and sawmill business, Bluhm’s Custom Forestry. Curt remained active helping his family and numerous friends on various projects or anytime they needed a helping hand. Coming from a large family of 6 brothers and 1 sister, Curt’s big personality, funny stories and helpful advice made him the center-of-attention and he will be dearly missed.
Over the years, he loved to spend time with his wife, son and grandsons. He enjoyed attending his son’s soccer games and wrestling matches. Curt taught Kyle to wrestle and they spent many hours wrestling on the floor. One of their fondest memories was their cross-country trip out West. Curt was inquisitive and had a broad range of knowledge which he passed on to his son. He taught Kyle how to work hard but still enjoy life. Kyle’s favorite memory is riding in his dad’s truck while his dad sang Turn the Page by Bob Seger to him.
Survivors include his loving wife, Karen (Haraway) and their son, Kyle and grandsons, Dallas and Westley of North Benton; siblings, Noel Bluhm of Alliance, Nancy Hubbs Shapiro of Paris, and her children Erin and Ryan, Karl Bluhm of North Benton, and his children Alicia, Samantha and Tyler (Alex), Nelson Bluhm of Minerva, Clayton Bluhm of Alliance, and Henry Bluhm (Kim), and his daughter, Amanda (Henry); a niece, Krysta Hayes (Robert) of Calgary Alberta Canada and their son, Xander.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Neal “Greg” Bluhm.
