Charles D. Porter's Obituary
Charles D. Porter, 82, of Alliance, died on Saturday, April 14, 2007 at 2:45 p.m. at Alliance Community Hospital. He was born on April, 20, 1925 in Bridgeport and had lived in Alliance since 1955. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Charles was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II. During his time of service he received the European, the Pacific & the American Theater Ribbons along with the Victory Medal. He was also a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Mr. Porter retired as a welder from the Alliance Machine Company in 1987 after 31 years of service. He was a member of the Roma Society, Christopher Columbus Society, Dante Alighieri Society and the B.P.O. Elks Lodge. Charles also enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie J. (Chiporo) Porter whom he married on June 18, 1955; a sister, Sara Ellen "Betty" Yurkovitch of FL.; a brother, Arthur Walton Porter of WV; and several nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, William Ross and Caroline "Carrie" (Heusel) Porter; five sisters, Lelia Harter, Evelyn Brooks Porter, Ruth Elizabeth Porter, Mary Jane Stole and Grace Eleanor Porter; and six brothers, Howard Ross Porter, Paul Vinson Vincent Porter, James Thomas Porter, William Robert Porter, John Wesley Porter and Irvin Richard Porter. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Thursday April 19, 2007 from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Thursday, April 19, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Hugh Hookway Jr. officiating. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at Highland Memorial Park.
