Charles Bernard Bench's Obituary
Charles Bernard Bench Jr., 82, of Alliance, died on Thursday, March 18, 2004 at 10:48 p.m. at Aultman Hospital. Born in Barton, OH, on March 12, 1922, he lived most of his life in Alliance. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II and served as a first class petty officer. A 1940 Alliance High School graduate, Mr. Bench graduated from the Central Airline School in Kansas City, Missouri, and retired as a reservations agent from Eastern Airlines. He owned and operated the former Greenbower Printing. Mr. Bench was an auxiliary policeman for Lexington Township, belonged to the National Rifle Association, the Alliance Amateur Radio Club and had a ham radio license. He was a member of the D.A.V. Post 50, American Legion Post 166, and the Paralyzed Veteran's of America. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He is survived by three daughters, Helen Hobbs of Cleveland, Christine Clevenger of North Canton, and Patricia Dery of Montreal, Canada; three sons, Michael Bench, Jeffery Bench, and Steven Bench, all of Alliance; 11 grandchildren; a sister, Violet Rowell of Alliance; two brothers, Virgil Bench of Sun City, AZ, and Jerry Bench of Alliance; and six nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary (Kacarab) Bench, on December 1, 1997, (they were married on July 12, 1947); his parents, Charles and Eleanor (Bertine) Bench, Sr. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m., with the Rev. Fr. Donald L. Feicht as celebrant. Friends may call at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Monday from 7 - 9:00 p.m. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
