Carl F. Wachsman's Obituary
Carl F. Wachsman, 83, of Alliance, died unexpectantly on Monday, January 26, 2004. A lifelong resident of Alliance, Carl was born on August 12, 1920. A graduate of Alliance High School, he received further education in banking at the Mellon Institute of Banking in Pittsburgh. Mr. Wachsman retired as Senior Vice President of Bank One after a 45-year career with the same bank, which was previously known as First National Bank. After his retirement, he served as a Business Retention Specialist for the Stark Development Board. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion, Post 166. A member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, he was a former member of the Board of Directors of St. Joseph Cemetery. He was also a former member of the Board of Trustees of St. John's Villa in Carrollton. Carl was the 1977 recipient of the Citizen of the Year award, given by the Alliance Lions Club. He was a member of the Alliance Country Club, the Alliance Area Chamber of Commerce, Past Treasurer for the Salvation Army and had been an active member with the Alliance Area United Way. A member of the Comad Masonic Lodge, he was also a member of the Alliance Shrine Club, the Tadmor Temple and the Scottish Rite. Mr. Wachsman was very active in the passage of Senate Bill # 619, which was necessary for the advocacy of Retarded Citizens. He was also a member of ARC (Association for Retarded Citizens). He is survived by children, Gary E. Wachsman of Alliance, Pat L. Libis of Massillon, Bill (Darlene) Wachsman of Canton, and Jody L. Wachsman, a resident of St. John's Villa in Carrollton; one grandson, Scott Wachsman of Alliance; two step grandchildren, Jennifer Tan and Jessica Cropley, both of North Canton; and a niece, Adele Edith Gegenheimer of Scottsdale, AZ. Preceding him in death was his wife of 61 years, Vada M. (Hamlin) Wachsman (they were married on November 16, 1942, in Ft. Worth Texas where they resided for two years); his parents, Michael and Adele (Hauser) Wachsman; a sister Adele Wachsman Gulland and a brother Walter Wachsman. Friends may call at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Thursday, January 29, 2004, from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Thursday, January 29, 2004, at 11 :00 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Donald L. Feicht as celebrant. Entombment will follow at Highland Memorial Park.
