Carl Pipus' Obituary
Carl Pipus, 93, of Alliance, died on Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at 9:22 a.m. in his residence. He was born on August 17, 1917 in Alliance to the late James and Mary Pipus. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Carl was raised at the Fairmount Children s Home and had lived in Alliance all of his life. He had played in the Band at the children s home and while in high school. Following his graduation from Alliance High School, he served in the U. S. Army, 25th Infantry Division, attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class, serving from 1940 - 1945. He served in the Pacific Theater and was stationed in Pearl Harbor when attacked. He later re-enlisted with the Army from 1950 -1953, serving in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Pipus was awarded several service medals during his service in the Armed Forces, and was presented a "Bronze Star", on the 50th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor, from President George H. W. Bush. He retired in 1981 from American Steel Foundry where he was employed as a Mold Machine Operator. Mr. Pipus was a member of the V.F.W. Post #6730, the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, a life member of the Roma Society, a life member of the Christopher Columbus Society, and a social member of the Dante Alighieri Society. He is survived by his wife, Doris (Quattrocchi) Pipus, whom he married on February 27, 1960; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his parents, and three brothers, Joseph, John and George Pipus. The family will receive friends at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Thursday, February 24, 2011 from 9:30 - 10:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Donald L. Feicht, as celebrant. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
