Carl H. DeLion, Jr.'s Obituary
Carl H. DeLion, Jr., 85, of Alliance, died on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at 3:55 p.m. at Oak Pointe Care Center in Baltic, Ohio as a result of a brain hemorage. Mr. DeLion was born on April 18, 1925 in Alliance, OH to Wilma (Easterday) and Carl Henry DeLion, Sr. He lived in Alliance all of his life. Carl attended Alliance High School, but left before graduation to join the Army in World War II, during which time he was awarded the Purple Heart. He served in the 3626th Trucking Unit in Patton s Red Ball Express. After returning from service, Carl finished high school. He worked as a machinist at Babcock & Wilcox Tube Division until he retired. Mr. DeLion was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was also a member of the Akron Tadmor Shrine. He loved to play golf. Survivors include his daughter, Shawn Marie DeLion of Alliance; a son, Rev. Fr. Lawrence Raymond DeLion of Smithtown, NY; sisters Marie Herbert of Carrollton and Kathy (Crinley) Hoover of Alliance; sister-in-law Mary Lou Peterson of Alliance and many nieces and nephews. Carl was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Ruth E. (Peterson) DeLion on May 27, 1997, whom he married on February 6, 1950, an infant son, Keith Alan DeLion; his parents, Wilma (Easterday) DeLion Scott Lilly and Carl Henry DeLion, Sr.; a sister, Evelyn Rogers; and a brother, John "Jack" DeLion. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. A Masonic service conducted by Homeworth Masonic Lodge #499 will be held at 4:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. with Carl's son, the Rev. Fr. Lawrence R. DeLion and Rev. Barbara Bartholomew officiating. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will take place at a later date at Fairmount Memorial Park.
