Byrde L. (Fuchs) Addams' Obituary
Byrde L. (Fuchs) Addams, 89, of Alliance passed away Friday, January 1, 2010 at Community Care Center. She was born on October 25, 1920 in Alliance to the late Samuel and Sarah (West) Fuchs and resided in Alliance her entire life. A 1938 graduate of Alliance High School, she attended Malone College and Youngstown State University. She was a life member of the Christ United Methodist Church for more than 60 years. Byrde was employed as an independent health and life insurance agent achieving her professional designation of LUTCF and RHU and was a charter member of both. She was a fellow of the Life Insurance Training Council. During her career she was the first woman elected as President of the Ohio Association of Life Underwriters. She served as the President of the Alliance-Salem Association of Life Underwriters. She was a member of the National Association of Life Underwriters and an honorary member of the Florida Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. She received many awards and achievements during her professional career. She had the distinction of being the recipient of the first Athena Woman of the Year award in 1988, presented by the Women s Division of the Alliance Area Chamber of Commerce. During her life, Mrs. Addams was involved in many organizations. Her leadership roles included serving as past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Alliance Area Chamber of Commerce, the Elks Auxiliary, the Stark County Council of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Mount Union College Woman s Club. Byrde was also past chairman of the Woman s Division of the Alliance Area Chamber of Commerce and the Department of Ohio, American Legion Auxiliary for Junior Activities, Education and Legislation. In addition, she was past chapeau of the Stark County Salon #335 of the 8 & 40. She was the precinct committee woman of the Democratic party and a member of the Alliance City Hospital Foundation Board, the Alliance Memorial Day Committee, the Rotary Club, the Quota Club, the Alliance Woman s Club, the Ladies Shrine, and a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 166, V.F.W. Post # 1035 and the DAV. Survivors include her three daughters, Lenna Fraraccio of Alliance, Christine (Bob) Ruff of Mequon, WI and Barbara (Bob) Keener of Kent; two sons, Randy (Beth) Addams of Ellenton, FL and Paul (Joyce) Addams of Alliance; 14 grandchildren, Lisa Stroud, Lenny Addams, Amy Davey, Jennifer Fraraccio, Rachelle Ruff, Tiffany Ruff, Lindsey Ruff, Bob Ruff, Kathleen Ruff, Krysti Addams, Kari Addams, Casey Keener, Bobby Keener and Christine Keener; eleven great-grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth Daugherty of Dunwoody, GA; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was her husband, Leonard Addams on May 19, 1985, whom she married on October 20, 1940; a son-in-law, Gregory Fraraccio; a great-grandson, Anthony Davey; her parents; two sisters, Eva Greenfield and Olive Francis; and two brothers, Samuel and Irvin Fuchs. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Thursday, January 7, 2010 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. The Ladies Auxiliary to the BPO Elks #467 will provide a service on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Friday, January 8, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Chris Martin of Christ United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
