Benjamin "Nubby" Johnson's Obituary
Benjamin "Nubby" Johnson, 82, of West Summit St., Alliance, died Wednesday, October 16, 2002, after a long term illness at Altercare of Alliance, where he had resided for the last 5 years. Born in Orangeville, Indiana on February 8, 1920, he had been a resident of Alliance for most of his life. A 1939 graduate of Orleans High School in Orangeville, he then served our country during World War II, in the U. S. Army Air Corps. Mr. Johnson was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church and enjoyed model airplanes, motorcycles and cars. He was previously employed at Taylorcraft Aviation as a welder and retired from B & W Tubular Products after 34 years where he was a millwright and Boiler Fireman. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane (Oliver) Johnson, whom he married on Nov. 12, 1942; daughters, Karen Johnson of Alliance and Sharon (Fred) Ries of Bellefonte, Pa; sons, Richard (Sally) Johnson of St. Clairsville, Don Johnson of Canton, and Keith (Susan) Johnson of Salem; 9 grandchildren; a brother-in-law Darrell Jackman of Fairland, In.; and several nieces & nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, Oscar and Mae (Pruett) Johnson; a sister Margie Jackman and two brothers, Jack Johnson and Oscar Johnson, Jr. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Friday, October 18, 2002, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Saturday October 19, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. David Kowaleski officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Highland Memorial Park.
