Atty. Anthony J. Coco 's Obituary
Atty. Anthony J. Coco, 101, of Alliance, went home with the Lord on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 8:30 am at his home in Alliance.
Born on July 13, 1918 in Alliance, to Charles and Carmella (Mangano) Coco, he lived in Alliance all of his life.
Anthony was member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
A 1936 graduate of Alliance High School, he also attended Mt. Union College where he belonged to Phi Kappa Tau and then graduated from William McKinley School of Law.
A veteran of World War II, he served our country in the U.S. Navy on the USS Emery DE28. He received two Battle Stars in 1944 for assaults on West Caroline Islands and Iwo-Jima.
Anthony worked with WPA upon returning from the war. He also bartended at the Stark Hotel, was a tool & die maker at Alliance Appliance Manufacturing, was an estimator at Morgan Engineering, and bartended at the Elks Lodge.
Anthony practiced law in Alliance for over 50 years, retiring in 2003 at the age of 85.
He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 1036, American Legion, Post 166, B.P.O. Elks, Lodge #467 and the Christopher Columbus Society.
Anthony enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, and had pitched softball in his earlier years.
Survivors include his daughter, Carmella Coco of Alliance; a brother, John Coco of Alliance; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Irene (Macaione) Coco, whom he married on November 16, 1936 and who passed away on November 1, 2005; his four sisters, Lena Webber, Mary Gibbon, Florence Coco and Rose Valenti; and three brothers, Nunzio Coco, James Coco and Samuel Coco; and his parents.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home. An Elk’s Service will be held at 5:30 p.m.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Very Rev. Canon Matthew J. Mankowski, as celebrant. Burial, with military honors, will immediately follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
