Andy A. Sukosd's Obituary
Andy A. Sukosd, 83, of Alliance, died on Thursday, September 18, 2008, at 10:00 p.m. at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on November 29, 1924 in Alliance, and lived in Alliance all of his life. Andy was a graduate of Alliance High School and was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was stationed in Guam and the Philippines where he served as Fireman First Class, earning the Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal. He was a member of the VFW Post 4120 in Minerva. Mr. Sukosd worshipped in his own way outdoors, and retired from Burns Cold Forge, where he was employed as a machinist. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing Texas Hold Em, traveling, eating, watching western movies and the T.V. show Matlock. Most of all he loved his family. Andy is survived by four daughters, Amy (Chuck) Colucci of Alliance, Marilyn (James) Hoover of Alliance, Diana Hawthorne of Alliance and Donna (Butch) Schott of WI; two sons, Andy Sukosd of Alliance and James (Marie) Sukosd of Alliance; twelve grandchildren, Jason Bonnell, Patty Wingerter, Samantha Kerns, Molly Hoover, Brandon Hawthorne, Monica Winans, Stacy Hawthorne, Carmen Quinlan, Faith Quinlan, Christopher Sukosd, Ellen Stevens and Gerald Simmons; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Esther (Bill) Holbert of Alliance; two brothers, John (Flora) Sukosd of Massillon and Jim Sukosd of North Benton; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his wife, Nancy (Montler) Sukosd in 2002, whom he married on May 30, 1952; his parents, Albert and Anna (Heil) Sukosd; a sister, Julia Miller; and a brother, Joe Sukosd. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Joseph A. Peters officiating. Interment, with military honors will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery immediately following services.
