Andy Dordea VI's Obituary
Andy was in the care of Hospice and surrounded by loved ones when he left our earthly world on June 11, 2017. He was born on May 30, 1922, in Alliance, Ohio, to Anna Vintila and Andy Dordea, V. He graduated from Alliance High School in 1940 and Mount Union College in 1944. Nearly all of his life was spent in Alliance always helping others.
He was a cheerleader for both Alliance High School and Mount Union College. He was the only male cheerleader that Mount had during his 4-year stint. Later, while employed at Alliance High School, State Street Junior High and Stanton Junior High, he coached the cheerleaders and taught in the Alliance School System.
He took an extension course from the Ohio State University in industrial psychology and a correspondence course from LaSalle University in accountancy. At Mount Union he assisted Professor Albanus Kitzmiller in the psychology department while a student there.
He was a precinct committeeman, notary public, insurance agent, factory, office and railroad worker, laborer and did several miscellaneous jobs before retiring from the City of Alliance as deputy auditor.
He liked to dance and won several contests, especially jitterbug. Served as chairman of the social and entertainment committee for local union #3059, U.S.A./C.I.O, was president of Romanian Junior Union and youth organization of the United States and Canada. At one time he had held memberships in Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity, St. Nicholas Romanian Orthodox Church, Unirea Romana Transilvaniana Society and Alliance Area Democrat Club.
He was a dedicated family man and remained most proud of his two sons: Lawrence Dordea (Deanna) of Alliance, and Andrei Dordea (Nicki) of Wooster. Emily Marginian was his longtime friend and dance partner and political ally.
Surviving, also, is his sister Constance “Tonsi” Peters, 6 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Ann.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 16, 2017 from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home. His Funeral Service will begin at 1:30 pm with Rick Sams, Pastor of Alliance Friends Church, officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Alliance City Cemetery.
