Alva R. "Al" Heim's Obituary
Alva R. "Al" Heim, 75, formerly of Alliance, died on Monday, October 16, 2006 at 5:15 a.m. at his residence in Glen Carbon, IL. Mr. Heim was born on June 7, 1931 in Alliance, and lived in Alliance most of his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Ohio National Guard for 25 years. Alva retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he was a postman for 35 years. A 50 year life member of the American Legion and life member of the DAV, Mr. Heim was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Roma Society, the Letter Carriers Association, and the ABC Bowling League. He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Stockberger) Heim, whom he married on October 18, 1952; a daughter, Pat (Joel) Stockert of Glen Carbon, IL; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren. Alva was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Mabel (Myers) Heim; two sisters, Lois Barker and Mary Knipp; and a brother, John Heim. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Friday, October 20, 2006 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Saturday, October 21, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Joe Peters officiating. Interment will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
