Alma M. Calderone's Obituary
Alma M. Calderone, 88, of Alliance, died on Tuesday, February 20, 2007, at 12:15 p.m. at Alliance Community Hospital. She was born on October 19, 1918 in Brandy Camp, Pennsylvania and lived in Alliance since 1923. Alma was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Joseph Women s Guild. She retired from the Alliance Manufacturing Company, where she was employed as an assembler. Mrs. Calderone was a member of the Roma Society, the former Ladies of the Christopher Columbus Society and the former Ladies of the Dante Alighieri Society. Alma was so dearly loved by her late husband, Joe, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She showed the warmth of her love to many with her crocheted aphgans. She also crocheted an afghan of the American Flag that is displayed in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC, which she had sent to President Gerald Ford. She is survived by two daughters, Angela (Angelo) Tortora of Las Vegas, NV and Sara (Robert) Baumgartner of Alliance; six grandchildren, Chuck (Julie) Tortora of Magadore, OH, Krista Tortora of Seattle, WA, Gioia (Paul) Kurpik of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Gina (Gershon) Alcantara of Grayslake, IL, Robert Baumgartner of Alliance, OH and Brian (Nicki White) Baumgartner of Minerva, OH; three great grandchildren, Benjamin Kurpik, Elizabeth Kurpik and Gershon Alcantara III; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Calderone on March 19, 2005, whom she married on November 30, 1940; her parents, Emilio and Albina (Leonesi) Phillippi; two sisters, Palma Yendrich and Mary "Pina" Phillippi; and four brothers, Abraham Phillippi, Mike Phillippi, Mark Phillippi and Louis Phillippi. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Saturday, February 24, 2007 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Fr. Donald L. Feicht, officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
