Albert P. Atkins' Obituary
Albert P. Atkins, 83, of Jackson, Missouri, died on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at the Monticello House in Jackson. He was born on February 26, 1923 in Oberlin, Ohio the son of Zigmond and Julia (Ragoni) Atkins. On July 12, 1958, he married Lorretta J. Pisanello at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alliance, Ohio. Atkins was inducted into the United States Army on February 9, 1943 and honorably discharged from service October 15, 1945 at the rank of Tech Sergeant. While in the Army he was a bombardier on a B 17 with the Eighth Air Force in England completing 31 missions. He was awarded the Air Force Medal with five Oak Leaf clusters. Mr. Atkins was graduate of Oberlin High School in Oberlin, Ohio; a graduate of Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio with a major in Industrial Arts Education; and had attended graduate school at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. During his career he worked at the Cadillac Army Tank P1ant in Cleveland, OH; Chevrolet Central Office in Detroit, MI; Fruehauf Trailer Corporation in Detroit; American Motors Corp in South Bend, Indiana; served as senior consultant at Lester B. Knight and Associates in Chicago; Director of Planning and Construction at the Proctor Hospital in Peoria, Illinois; and also before retiring was the Director Planning and Construction at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Mr. Atkins moved to Jackson, Missouri in 1979. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and performed volunteer work at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau and was a marshal at the Bent Creek Golf Course in Jackson. Survivors include his wife Loretta J. Atkins of the home; two sisters Margaret Kear of Wharton, Ohio and Helen Annahle of South Bend, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Friday, January 5, 2007 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Regina Coeli Catholic Church on Saturday, January 6, 2007, at 10:00 a.m., with the Rev. Fr. Michael Seifert, as celebrant. Entombment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Beloit, OH.
