Vincent Young

July 1, 1920 - November 3, 2017

Vincent Dewey Young, made his transition from this earthly life on Friday, November 3, 2017, escorted by one of the Lord's Angels. He traveled to his new home at the blessed age of 97. He was born July 1, 1920, as one of five children in Ravenna, Ohio to the union of Dewey Marion Young and Vera May Williams Young. At the age of six, he moved to Alliance. Vincent attended Alliance Public Schools, served in the U.S. Army from 1942 - 1946. Was employed at the American Steel for 45 years, retiring as a supervisor. During his life he was a special police officer at the Alliance City Police Department, Alliance City School Guard on Parkway, worked with Sibley-Murray Funeral Home, memberships of the Mt. Olive Lodge No. 66 Prince Hall Free and Accepted Masons, Starlite Chapter #83 Order of Eastern Star, State of Ohio, PH.A., Negro History Club, and Negro Old Timers, Inc, Canton, Ohio. Vince was a people person and loved to keep them smiling, loved watching western TV, traveling and reading. He was one of the oldest members, in age, of Second Baptist Church in Alliance, Ohio. He leaves behind to cherish his memories, devoted and loving wife of 23 years Betty M. Spivey Young, two sons Kershawn (Katrena) A. Starks of Philadelphia, PA and Haywood "Billy" (Helen) McBride of Chicago, IL; daughter, Annie Rae Kirksey of Alliance, two grandchildren, Carl (Skeeter) Kirksey of Alliance, Kelsie Starks of South Carolina; two great-grandsons, Darius and Jarrin Kirksey of New York; one brother Clellan also known as "Chunk" or "Cy" (Judy) of Citrus Heights, CA; devoted nephew, Winfred (Marion) Young; a cousin Dr. Grace C. Brown of Shaker Heights, OH who provided moral support; special brother-in-law, Frank (Shirley) Spivey Jr., Las Vegas, NV. who treated him like a king; sister-in-law, Christine Spivey of Beavercreek, OH; brother-in-law; Charles (Yola) Edward Spivey of Huntsville, AL; two special pet home Buddies, Fluffy and Max. Host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Preceded in death by parents, former wife Maggie McBride Young, brother Cleatus Young, sisters Loretta Young Drue, Bernice Young Rhyne. To all my family and friends, when you think of me, "keep that smile and spread it wide cause God has been good to me." The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 9, 2017 from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm at Second Baptist Church. His Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Burial, with military honors, will immediately follow at Alliance City Cemetery.
