George Allan Blake Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

George Allan Blake, 75, of Alliance, passed away at his home on May 31, 2022 with his family at his side. He was born in Alliance, Ohio to Eileen "Red" Boise and Ken Blake Sr. on May 23, 1947. George was a 1965 graduate at Western Reserve High School where he played basketball, football and ran track. George held a record in track that was not broken for almost three decades. Immediately after graduation, George entered the United States Marine Corps where he was sent to Vietnam soon thereafter. After spending four years in the Corps, he left the Marines and returned to Ohio. George married Eleanor McMahan on November 14, 1969 and they had three children, Ronald, Terri, and Scott. George was hired by the Alliance Fire Department and also worked part time at the Lexington Township Police Department, where he found his second calling as being a police officer. In 1974, George reenlisted in the U.S Marine Corps again where he spent the next four years with his family at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina. George contemplated a career in the Marines, but was told that he would have to go to Okinawa, Japan without his family. He elected to leave the service attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Once returning to Ohio, George started an honorable and distinguished career as a police officer and later as a detective. George was hired by the Sebring, Ohio Police Department where he served as a patrolman and a detective. George was selected as the Sebring Police Officer of the Year in 1986. George later left Sebring and was hired at the Alliance Police Department where he served in the patrol division, narcotics entry team and the detective bureau. He was selected as the Alliance Police Officer of the Year in 1994. After spending a total of 33 years in public service, including defending this great country in Vietnam, George retired in 1998. George thoroughly enjoyed his 25 years in retirement where he enjoyed traveling with his family and his beloved Chihuahua, "Tinky". George is survived by his wife Eleanor; and his son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Maggie. He was adored by his seven grandchildren; Amanda, Cody, Tara, Krista, Justin, Jessica, and Brianna as well as 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Ken Blake Senior and Roger Blake; his sisters, Cynthia Blake Boyd and Penny Starnes; and his sons-in-law, Dave Summers and Ron Lambert. George was preceded in death by his parents; his children, Terri Summers-Lambert and Ron McMahan; and a brother Danny Blake. George was also preceded in death by step-siblings, Joe Huff and Patty Garces. He impacted so many lives through his careers and his devotion of 27 years to AA. His Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 3, 2022 at 11:00 am at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home, with Rev. Michael Ping officiating.
