My deepest sympathies to the Whitaker's for there loss. As a boy I remember the V8 MG well. My father and Don would take us Brian and I to Quaker City Dragway. I enjoyed riding in it. As a teen Don tried to get me interested in radio. Later in life I sat down and got my license. Do helped me greatly setting my first shack up. 73's Don Thanks for the help and the memories. My deepest sympathies goes out to the Whitaker family after hearing the news of Don's passing on my way in to work this morning. A voice that was there on the Alliance repeater frequency in the early morning hours to accompany us local hams on our daily commute to work and some good old fashioned taunts aimed at stirring the pot with a few of us Pittsburgh Steeler fans. I will remember all the help and technical advice he passed on to me when I started in the amateur radio hobby spring of 2012. He was only a shout away on the Alliance frequency and was always eager to lend a hand. I will miss stopping by his table at the Portage County Ham fest where I always stopped to say hi and visit for a few moments and will miss hearing him on the air.
73's Don and thank you for all your help. You will be missed and thought of fondly. The morning commute will never be the same. Steve Simon KD8SPF
Very sad to hear of the passing of Don, a friend I have known for 50 years and always enjoyed our conversations, both together and "on the air." Having a friend of similar interests is always a blessing and will miss his participation in one of our annual Massillon radio events. Don was Alliance's Amateur Radio ambassador for years and will be missed by all his Stark County friends. But the memories can't be taken from us.
I offer my sincere condolences to the Whitaker family and know that Don will continue onward in that eternal venture that can't be seen with mere human eyes. May the peace of God be felt by you all.
